Your website might look fine on the office desktop. Then a prospect opens it on their phone, on a patchy mobile connection, and waits. The hero image is blank. A carousel jumps around. The enquiry button sits behind a chat widget that’s still loading. Most people won’t wait. They go back to search results and click the next company.
For Indian businesses, where many first visits happen on mobile, website performance improvement isn’t about chasing a perfect score. It’s about making sure the people who want to talk to you can actually reach the enquiry form. This article explains how we approach performance at Hyrrokkin, and why we treat it as part of building and modernising websites rather than a one off tweak.
The performance problems buyers actually feel
Lab scores have their place, but they don’t tell the whole story. When we review business websites the way a real visitor would, on a real Chrome browser in both desktop and mobile views, the same patterns keep coming up:
- A blank or half loaded first screen on mobile. The main hero image or a heavy carousel takes several seconds to show anything useful.
- Carousels and autoplay media that stutter. Sliders reflow and jump while the rest of the page is still loading.
- Third party widgets that block the main call to action. Chat boxes, maps and video players load first, and the “Enquire now” button waits behind them.
- Desktop fine, mobile struggling. The menu or key buttons appear late, or shift position after late loading styles and scripts kick in.
- Layout shift. Text and buttons move while you’re trying to tap them.
Underneath these symptoms there’s usually a familiar set of causes: oversized images, unused JavaScript and CSS, too many plugins, scripts loading in the wrong order, and hosting or caching that was never tuned for the site.
The business cost is simple. If the enquiry path is slow or broken on mobile, you lose leads you never hear about.
Why we don’t sell performance as a standalone fix
You can make a slow site score better in a testing tool without fixing the experience for buyers. Strip some scripts, compress some images, and the number goes up. But if the underlying build is ageing, the CMS is cluttered and nobody owns the site afterwards, it slows down again within months.
That’s why at Hyrrokkin, performance work sits inside website modernisation, redesign and ongoing care. Our website modernisation work lists performance alongside UX, CMS, integrations, SEO foundations and security, covering page delivery, asset optimisation and overall technical performance. A fast page is part of a healthy website, not a separate project.
How we approach website performance improvement
Here’s the process our web team follows when performance is part of a modernisation or rebuild.
1. Understand the current stack and critical journeys
Before touching anything, we look at how your site is built: the hosting, the CMS, the plugins and the integrations. More importantly, we map the journeys that matter to the business, such as enquiry forms, product or service pages and careers pages. Performance work that breaks a CRM integration isn’t an improvement.
2. Measure the issues visitors actually feel
We check the site on real browsers in desktop and mobile views and look for visible problems: a slow first screen, stalling carousels, widgets blocking the call to action, layout shift. Where slowness is obvious, we use tools like Lighthouse to understand what’s behind it. We don’t treat a single number as the finding. A visible stall that a buyer would notice is the finding.
3. Prioritise by business impact
Not every issue deserves equal attention. We put lead capture and mobile journeys first. A one second delay on the enquiry page matters far more than a minor score drop on an old news post. This keeps the effort where it protects revenue, not vanity metrics.
4. Fix in a controlled environment
Wherever possible, changes go to a staging copy of the site first, not straight to the live website. Typical work includes:
- Optimising image and media weight
- Cleaning up unused or duplicate scripts and plugins
- Improving how assets are delivered
- Changing the load order of third party scripts so the main content and call to action come first
- Reducing layout shift on key pages
Testing on staging means we can catch conflicts before your visitors do. Speed changes, especially script deferral and caching, can quietly break forms or tracking if they’re rushed.
5. Verify, purge caches and check mobile again
Once changes go live, we purge caches and re check the key journeys. Does the enquiry form still submit? Do the menus work on mobile? Does the first screen show up properly on a phone? Performance work isn’t done until the lead paths are verified.
6. Hand over to ongoing care when it makes sense
Websites slow down again as content, plugins and campaigns pile up. For sites that need ongoing attention, our Secure Website AMC includes performance and technical health work such as performance reviews, page load and Core Web Vitals monitoring, response time checks, server and database review, error log review, cache and configuration review, and recommendations for bottlenecks. Note that AMC is ongoing care, not unlimited new development.
Performance, SEO and enquiries move together
When we modernise a site, we don’t just make it faster. We protect what’s already working. That means keeping important URLs, enquiry workflows and search visibility intact while the site underneath gets better.
Here’s how one client described their experience on our website modernisation page:
“Hyrrokkin modernised our Global Dryers website while preserving critical URLs, enquiry workflows and existing search visibility.”
Uday Bagaria, T&I Global Limited, India
On another modernisation project for RINAC, the published outcome was 400+ URLs mapped and migrated, CRM and enquiry workflows preserved, and existing search critical pages retained. That’s the point: a faster, more modern site should never cost you the traffic and leads you already have.
Security and speed are connected too
Bloated plugins, outdated themes and untidy third party scripts slow a site down, and they also widen its attack surface. When we clean up a site for performance, we look at hardening at the same time. If security is a concern, our website security hardening service covers that side in depth.
Speed also affects what happens after the form is submitted. A fast site gets the enquiry in. Responding quickly closes the deal. Our post on B2B lead follow up speed in India covers that half of the story.
Signs your website needs performance work
You probably need to look at performance if:
- Your site looks fine on desktop but feels sluggish on your own phone
- The first screen on mobile stays blank or half loaded for a few seconds
- Buttons or text move while the page loads
- A chat or map widget appears before your main call to action
- Your enquiries have dropped and nobody can say why
- The site hasn’t had a technical review since it launched
